“Cheer”

By Emma Morris

In the middle of Texas, in a town no one knows, lies Navarro College. Its cheer squad possesses an undying drive and passion for the sport. The backgrounds of the kids on the team are revealed as the show progresses. The team members come from all walks of life, which is refreshing to see, as cheer is often perceived as a sport for the wealthy.

The show also focuses on Monica Aldama, the team’s head coach. She has a connection with every kid on the team and truly cares for them and the sport. Though she is caring, Monica is also firm when instructing the team on the mat. She’s driven, with her goal to have “the best cheer team in the country.”

”Cheer” is an excellent show, drawing viewers in episode after episode, wondering not only who will "make mat" for Daytona, where the only collegiate-level cheer competition is held, but also whether Navarro will win.
