XO, Kitty Season 2

The “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” spinoff series starring Lara Jean’s younger sister, Kitty, had high expectations from many fans alike. Whether or not the show lived up to them is debatable. But hey, I’m here for a frivolous and jolly little time, not necessarily for deeply moving and sentimental media. And luckily for me, this show delivered everything I asked for (which wasn’t a lot.) After nearly getting kicked out of school last season, Kitty returns to K.I.S.S. (Korean Independent School of Seoul) this season to lead a lowkey life. Of course, that’s not what happens though. We learn more about Kitty’s mom, the lore behind Minho’s daddy issues, and Dae’s journey of love and self confidence.

I’m gonna be real, I was here for two things and nothing else: to witness the beginning of the Minho x Kitty ship sail (I shipped them since season one, and the fact that they don’t even get together this season was heartbreaking) and for the Peter Kavinsky cameo. If there is ONE THING you need to know about me, it’s that I’m a sicko for nostalgia. So, when they started playing Lauv’s “I Like Me Better” as Peter walked into the scene, I was sobbing and banging my fists on the ground. THAT was cinema. Props to the chef—I have no notes. Other than that, I’ll be honest and say that it’s a show you can have in the background as you fold laundry. The other plotlines are not as fleshed out or nuanced, and the show heavily relies on the comedic relief from Kitty’s friend, Q, and Noah Centineo. And yeah, I guess we had some cute moments between Minho and Kitty, but I’m still waiting for the full-blown romance in season three (fingers crossed).
