LUARDE MONTANO CANCEL

After watching 2011’s “Green Lantern” as a child, the character and the Lanterns as a whole were pretty much ruined for me, not to mention that I always gravitated towards the Marvel side of things. However, with Superman revitalizing the franchise and all the good I’ve heard about the “Peacemaker” show, I was inclined to give “Lanterns” a chance.

Having finished all the episodes that are out so far, I have to say that my love for the Lanterns is, like Hal’s ring, recharged.

“Lanterns” follows John Stewart and a disgruntled and old Hal Jordan as they navigate through their tense relationship as mentor and mentee. Finding themselves amid a mystery in Rushville, Nebraska, they fight and scheme against aliens disguised as humans and, as they will eventually discover, an even greater threat. The show gives us a window into John Stewart’s path to becoming a Lantern, with all that it entails. The very first episode ends on the best cliffhanger I’ve experienced since first watching “Invincible.”

The show keeps a steady pace, with each episode feeding us bits and pieces to tie the mysteries together. The action is great, as Hal and John’s actors bring them to life like they had never been seen before. The Lanterns’ effects are fantastic, with each user’s constructs being a window to their personality and minds.

Even with the show still missing two episodes, I wholeheartedly recommend it to any fan of superheroes and honestly everyone else. It’s a fantastic entry into the young DC Universe, and I can’t wait to see how it wraps up.
