Keeping the Good Vibes Flowing

Some antidotes to the stresses of the season

Mid-October is upon us, and it comes with no shortage of downers: more midterms and papers, the colder weather, and trees almost completely devoid of leaves. It all adds up to a tricky couple of weeks in the slog that is the fall semester.

In my experience, it’s easy to forget the simple joys this time of year: classes are busier, you feel like going outside less, and so on. Fortunately, there are ways to keep the stress low, stay relaxed, and keep the good vibes flowing:

1.  Walking around outside: Before it gets bone-chillingly cold, this is a low-key way to get some fresh air and feel more connected to campus. A simple thing like smiling at a stranger or getting a wave from someone familiar can be surprisingly refreshing.

2.  Listening to music: So simple, yet so great! I haven’t yet met someone who doesn’t like to listen to music of some sort. Whether hip hop or EDM is your vibe, take some time to tune in!

3.  Connecting with people: As someone who likes a solitary and thoughtful day as much as a lively one, I’m still aware how important other people are to me. We’re social creatures after all, so don’t forget to spend some time with others. Here’s to being there for each other through exams, the spooky season, snow, and more!
