Resident Evil (2026)
When Ordinary Becomes Extraordinary
SAADIYAH SIDDIQUI
Would you survive a zombie apocalypse? Imagine you’re an average Joe, not a rookie cop or trained in the military in any sense (if you do have any experience like that… keep reading anyways). Odds are that you might live a week or even a year, but either way it’ll be an incredible fight for survival.
This is the question that “Resident Evil” (2026) poses to the audience. In addition to being an average medical courier, Bryan (our protagonist, played by Austin Abrams) is also incredibly incompetent. He’s not so pathetic that you hate him since he strikes the perfect balance of comedic and endearing.
“Resident Evil” (2026) is based off of the hit video game series of the same name. Even as someone with limited experience with the games, what I do know tells me that this movie is exactly the premise I outlined above. Average person + zombie infection = “Resident Evil” (2026). It has the action, the survival horror, and the comedy that makes up a “Resident Evil” game.
Most fans of the game were offended when they heard about the self-contained nature of the movie (unfortunately no Leon Kennedy or Ada Wong to be seen in this one, folks), but the story still hits all the beats necessary. Seriously, give it a watch before you judge it.
I was shaking in terror after a jump scare one moment and bursting out laughing the next. “Resident Evil” (2026) will go down in history as a true masterpiece in horror-comedy.
